Who are you?

I’m Declan McGlynn and I’m a music tech journalist who’s worked with Rolling Stone, DJ Mag, Resident Advisor, Google, BBC, Water & Music and many more. I’ve also hosted events, panels and interviews leading events like ADE, IMS Ibiza, SONAR, WMC Miami, NAMM, BMC, BPM and others.

I’ve also been covering AI for many years, most notably for DJ Mag and Water & Music, so expect plenty of explorations of this fast-moving and divisive topic.

What is Future Filter?

Future Filter is a newsletter about how technology is shaping electronic music culture. I’ll explore how themes like how AI voice models will revolutionise music creation, how the DAW is stagnating and what comes next, how generative AI means the end of the sample pack, how cloud DJing will transform the industry and much more.

With Q&As with founders and CEOs as well as roundtables and long reads, Future Filter is about deep-diving into emerging trends within music tech and how they could shape the future for artists and fans.

For now, Future Filter is completely free, but you can support my writing for £5 a month if you like what you see or have enjoyed my work in the past. Thank you for reading.
